Lesson 3: Headless Hubbub

Vivy and I both have the special condition of having detachable heads. However, one has it through natural, organic means and one has it through robotic means.

My condition is through natural means and simply started to occur on my 13th birthday. I have the power to control my condition normally but if I am off for too long or if I am tired I sometimes lack the concentration to keep myself on. If there is no line around my neck then I am attached as good as anyone else. If there is a light line then it means with a little pulling or a hit to the head I can detach. If there is a dark line however, I am likely to roll off any second.

Vivy's condition started soon after starting college and started when she accidentally roboticized her neck. She stays on firmly but one click of a neck button and she will come off without resistance. The top neck button detaches her head from her neck while the bottom neck button detaches her neck from her body. Without her neck she is unable to connect to her body. A faint metal plate rests on top of her shoulders and below her head which acts as life support when she is detached, along with her neck.

Both of us are able to eat and drink while detached. Vivy's plates and/or neck stores the food nutrients until she connects back to her body and has it transfer over. As for me, I am unsure exactly how it works, it just does.

Vivy is able to stay off as long as she wants without penalty but the longer I stay off the longer it takes to reconnect back to my body. This is especially troublesome if I wake up in the morning with my head detached.

My neck looks normal unless I'm detached so I don't have to worry about covering my neck but Vivy's neck has faint markings around her neck that shows off the buttons and organic metal. For this reason she is always wearing chokers or tops that cover her neck, such as turtlenecks.
